Children who raise the families in which someone is abusing alcoholic beverages, live with a sense of danger, suffering and learn specific ways of proceeding, which hinder their lives. They are often victims of mental and physical, and sometimes become the victims of sexual abuse. Many of the children is trying to maintain the confidentiality of drinking parents, ashamed, have a sense that they are worse, but try to protect the good name of the family, fear and emotional disturbances are associated with fear.

In the 1950's, Erickson seemed to suggest he could not cure alcoholism and did not believe hypnosis could cure it because once a person had a drink, they became a different sort of creature psychologically and noted then what happens to those hypnotic suggestions? Later, Erickson did use his famous example of having an alcoholic go to the dessert, look at a cactus and ponder how long it could go without a drink. Apparently he decided to use hypnosis to support such techniques but not as a sole remedy. But I believe NLP has taught us since Erickson's days that alcoholism is quite curable and can be cured in one session without resorting to other such methods. I know from personal experience that 6 step reframing works in this area with stunning success. Bandler has called 6 step reframing a form of hypnosis which uses light trance and fragmentation. But I believe the use of calling on the creative part to work outside the realm of consciousness gives this process an aspect of effectiveness not achieved normally in hypnosis. Any comments?
